Bush Fires and the Internet

One of our HarbourSat customers Justine Croake recently told us about how her HarbourSat satellite service was the only outside communication she had during a spate of Fires at the end of summer.
The telephone line was down and she did not have her two way as her husband was out with it fighting the fire. They do not have mobile coverage on their property at Windeyer and she needed to contact other properties in the area to warn them of the fire and ask for the volunteer brigade to assemble.
Justine was able to email some of her neighbours to get the word out. All the fires were put out and no property was damaged thanks to the fantastic efforts of the Windeyer Bush Fire Brigade.
"It is very sad when the only means of communicating without leaving your home is via internet, (although, I haven't tried smoke-signals yet.). I would be lost without it," said Justine.
